How to Fund a Golf Tournament

Many chapters hold golf tournaments or similar events to bring alumni together and incidentally make a few bucks for the chapter, a Balanced Man Scholarship, I recently got this request in my email, even though I have no affiliation with the chapter or the location. I don't even play golf, for goodness sake. Fair enough. Being a blogger means I get stuff like this.

What I do like is the way it is put together. Clear. Up front with the request. A good call to action. The particulars are shown in the PDF file - the money goes to BMS scholarships, There is a 501(c)3 tax arrangement with the university and the tax number is included. All the bases are covered.

If your chapter wants to put on a similar event you could use this letter as a model and probably do well.

Brothers,

Fellow alumnus Rick Perdomo has enlisted me to help gather donations for our golf tournaments on August 4, 2012.

As such I like to ask for your help.
We want you to reach out to all of the friends, family, and businesses that you may know that will be able to provide us with a donation or a sponsorship of one of the holes on the golf course. We can claim nonprofit status through the University of Nevada, Reno, so all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. We would like to encourage in-kind donations for the raffle as well as monetary donations to help support the Balanced Man Scholarship.

Please use the attached PDF to share with your contacts who may be able to support our event.  Details of how the proceeds are spent are within the letter.

Even if you may not be in the financial position yourself to commit to the tournament, you can still help us by reaching out to your contacts in your networks to help generate a lead or further, a donation of some kind to the event.

As a side note, and along these same lines we would like to encourage anyone living out of town or even those who cannot play golf or don't want to play to sponsor a hole of golf during the day of the tournament or make an in-kind donation of some kind.

To sign up, sponsor a hole or financially donate, please visit: http://nvalpha.com/golf/
If you have any questions, please reach out to Rick (f.j.perdomo@sbcglobal.net) or myself (sigepbro95@hotmail.com or wrhull@gmail.com) for more information.
