Sigma Phi Epsilon wants you to take off your clothes and run around Washington Square Park in your underwear this Friday — and the CAS Student Council, Think Coffee and even the NYPD have given the event their blessings. NYU finally has its own undie run, a tradition that for years has helped students at other campuses de-stress before finals.
Ben Pesenti, the Steinhardt senior who is the main organizer of Sigma Phi Epsilon's event, said the fraternity had wanted to organize a large event on campus that would help the community. Undie Run, a group that organizes underwear runs at college campuses across the country to donate clothes to charitable causes, presented the perfect opportunity to organize a meaningful event, Pesenti said.
Virgin Mobile is sponsoring this year's event. Students should show up in clothes they have no problem parting with, and Sigma Phi Epsilon and Undie Run will do the rest: All clothing collected at the run is donated to Green Chimneys, a nonprofit that aims to help kids with emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities.
