In Loco Parentis for the new millenium

Stephen Yeargin passed along this notice from the Nashville "Tennessean." Coming as it does on the heels of the Texas Announcement you have to wonder if this is the start of a trend toward more restrictive campuses.
State colleges and universities will have to notify parents of students who are disciplined for alcohol or drug violations.

Gov. Phil Bredesen signed the measure last week. It applies to students who are younger than 21 years old.

Sen. Roy Herron, a Dresden Democrat, has said Tennessee is the first state in the country to adopt such a law.
An aside: I knew Roy Herron when we were at Tennessee in the '70s. He is a good ol' boy in the best sense of the term and has always been politically active. I was a Republican back then (I got better) but he has always been a 'yellow dog' Democrat and proud of it.
