Dec 04, 2007 (The Dominion Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ZZINE | charts | news | PowerRating -- A WVU fraternity will perform 500 community service hours for BOPARC for its involvement with the theft of a tree from White Park last week....and it continues like that throughout the article. After the first reference gives the full name all the subsequent references are to "SigEp." Not that our guys would never do something so boneheaded as steal a tree, but they should not be blamed via an uninformed reporter for something they did not do.
Brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, 660 N. High St., said they are sorry for what happened.
The fraternity will spend the rest of the year on probation for it.
Two students, one a Sig Ep brother, one not, cut down the blue spruce last week from White Park and decorated it as a Christmas tree in the fraternity house, Morgantown Police said.
Nathan Sisler, 20, of Star City, and Nicholas Casey, 18, of Morgantown, were charged with injuring or destroying a tree Friday. Sisler is a brother of Sig Ep. They also face a WVU judicial hearing in January.
Mayor Ron Justice, WVU assistant dean of Student Affairs, said the fraternity's probation means no Sig Ep brother may organize or participate in any Greek social activities. They must also pay $1,100 restitution to WVU for the replacement of the blue spruce. The university already purchased a new tree for the park.
