Ole Miss student stabbed in dispute

An off-campus dispute between two the University of Mississippi roommates resulted in one being charged with assault and the other being rushed to the hospital with multiple stab wounds early Friday morning.

Carter Hobby Beckworth, 20, of Houston, Texas, was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford shortly after 1 a.m. He was treated for stab wounds to his stomach, lower abdomen, behind an ear and under the left eye.

Laughlin "Trip" Fountain III was arrested at the Oxford residence he shares with Beckworth.

Beckworth is an English major and an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Fountain, 20, was a business marketing and communications major but did not enroll for the spring semester.

The Memphis native is a former member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
